William (Bill) Long is Professor and Chair of the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has previously served as Associate Chair of the School of International Affairs, and as Co-Director of the European Center of the University System of Georgia. Dr. Long is the recipient of research, teaching, and institution building awards from the Council on Foreign Relations, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Fulbright Commission, the European Union and the U.S. Department of Education. Before entering academia, Dr. Long practiced international law at the Washington, D.C. offices of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from Columbia University and a J.D. from Georgetown University.

Professor Long’s current research focuses on conflict resolution following civil and international war. His findings are published in his most recent book, War and Reconciliation. In addition, Dr. Long’s research focuses on international trade and technology transfer and their relationship to national security, economic competitiveness and international cooperation. In this regard, he has authored two books, Trade and Technology Incentives and Bilateral Cooperation, and U.S. Export Control Policy as well as numerous articles and book chapters.
